Back from Florida

We got back from Florida this afternoon and stopped in on the way home. The roof is now finished. The framing crew is done for now, and the electrical guys are in there running wires and mounting electrical stuff. Both showers are now in, and the fireplace was being installed this afternoon.

Sorry, I didn't have the camera with me today, I'll make sure I snap some pictures tomorrow.

Shingles

We stopped by on Sunday afternoon and saw Friday's progress. The roofing crew got about half-finished with the shingles, and the bathrooms were both prepared for the shower and bath tubs.

Framing is done

The framing is now done and all of the doors and windows are in except for the front door. We did our electrical walk-through today and picked out all of the switch and box locations, all of the lighting locations, layouts for appliances, etc. I think the roofers go to work with the shingles tomorrow.

Windows!

The guys decided to get windows in today while it is still cold and the ground in back of the house is still firm. Tomorrow is supposed to be mid-50's. They'll finish with the roof tomorrow and start working on the rest of the windows and doors.

Porch and Bedroom Trusses

The bedrooom trusses were put up today, and the roof was sheeted on the back side. The porch trusses were also put up. The roofers showed up this afternoon and realized that they could not bring their boom truck into the neighborhood because of the new weight restrictions. Instead of carrying the shingles up ladders they decided to come back on Wednesday with one of those escalator trucks. They should have the roof shingled and done by the end of the day Friday if everything goes as planned. The windows and doors were also delivered late this afternoon. Some of them will go in first thing tomorrow morning to help break the wind inside the house. Thursday is our electrical walk-through where we'll decide where to put all of the switches, boxes, etc.

Friday

They finished up the roof on the right side of the garage and then the "box returns", on the corners of the roof. Then they put in the upstairs bedroom closet/storage area above the mud room area behind and above the garage.
We picked out doors and doorknobs on Friday morning.

Thursday

They'll finish roofing the right side of the garage on Thursday and then move to the bedroom on the left side. Next step after that is doors and windows, which they'll probably have delivered early next week.

Started the Roof

They got the roof on the main part of the house today, and tar-papered the back side. Tomorrow it is supposed to be rainy and cold but they are hoping to get the rest of the trusses put up on the bedroom on the left side, and then get it sheeted.

Trusses

Heavy trucks are no longer allowed on Greenville streets as of today, but somehow a crane was delivered to our driveway at 7:00 this morning, and removed this afternoon when they were done with it.
Anyway they put up most of the trusses with the crane today, and the rest they can move into place by hand tomorrow. They should have the roof sheeted and papered by the end of the week so hopefully weather won't slow things down any more.

Ready for a Roof

They have all the scaffolding in place to begin putting up the trusses on Monday. It's almost starting to feel like a home when you're walking around inside.

2nd Floor is on

They cleared off the snow from the weekend on Tuesday morning, and brought in a couple of Bobcats to clear the front yard so the trusses could be delivered . They also got some of the joists for the 2nd floor put up.
Then today (Wednesday), they finished hanging the 2nd floor joists, built the stairs, put on the deck, and snapped chalk lines for the 2nd floor walls. I got to have some fun this afternoon going up and walking through the wall-less rooms.
They're not expecting to be able to work on Thursday or Friday, but will probably work Saturday and Sunday to make it up. By then they should have all of the 2nd floor walls up so that they can get the trusses on next week.
I get a daily update from Dennis when I get out there at 5-5:30 every evening. Dennis is one of the guys on the construction crew who likes to "unwind" every day after work with a 6-pack of Busch Light in his running car. I think he's happy to stick around for an extra 15 minutes and fill me in on the days work and tomorrows plans because it means that he doesn't have to go home to the wife and kids right away.
Hopefully the freezing rain and snow isn't too bad tonight!
